Hi, I'm Wendy Hatoum, a writer and creative strategist, with more than 20 years of experience in communications and digital marketing in the Burlington, Vermont area.
I have expertise in content strategy, copywriting, print management, journalism, public relations, e-commerce, and web development. I have specialized knowledge of horticultural marketing and an extensive network in the “green" industry.
My clients use my expertise to create engaging content, including email newsletter campaigns, blogs, articles, product descriptions and website content. They hire me for projects as diverse as garden writing, catalog production, SEO (search engine optimization) to social media strategy, branding and website creation.
My digital marketing experience comes from working in e-commerce and web development. For 6 years, I served as brand manager for HighCountryGardens.com, a company offering plants and seeds online. I was responsible for all facets of the brand's marketing strategies and simultaneously served as its product manager for three years.
I possess additional SEO and project management experience from my work with iMarket Solutions, a company that develops lead-generating SEO websites for plumbing and HVAC contractors. I've developed content-rich websites for small businesses and organizations as well, including Fit2Excel and Kappa Tau Nursing Honors Association.
My writing background includes journalism and public relations. I've worked as an associate editor for Sporting Goods Business magazine in New York City and as the managing editor at the Colchester Sun & Essex Reporter, weekly newspapers in Vermont's 2nd and 4th largest communities. I have experience in PR, working for Trinity College of Vermont and Sandage Advertising, where I headed campaigns for the Vermont Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, and the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources.
In 2019, I launched my business, Cultivated Content + Marketing, LLC. Major clients include HighCountryGardens.com, AmericanMeadows.com and the Town of Essex/Village of Essex Junction Parks and Recreation Departments. While I work with some large companies, I particularly enjoy helping new business owners start their businesses and define their brands.
My services include:
Depending on the complexity of the project, I may bring in some trusted partners.
I hold a BA in Education from State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz and a certificate in web development from the Community College of Vermont (CCV).
I'm a passionate perennial gardener and have toured and photographed hundreds of gardens throughout the US. Most weekends you'll find me in the garden or exploring Vermont’s rivers, hiking trails and breweries with my partner, Ted, and our dogs, Daisy and Hoss.
